Ideal for dinghy sailors, new sailors or anyone who has already done some crewing but would like to know a little more.
A comprehensive introduction to chart work, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship. This course should be treated as essential for anyone wishing to complete the Day Skipper practical course. Sail Grenadines recommends completing the theory courses before visiting us in the Grenadines.
This teaches you the skills of Pilotage, Navigation, Seamanship and boat handling needed to safely skipper a yacht in a familiar area by day. A very thorough course of skill building which is ideal for anyone who has done a little sailing before, ideally in the form of the Competent Crew Course (and has good theory knowledge). If you have sailed with friends or been on flotillas, we suggest brushing up on the basics before you arrive like knots, parts of the boat and all the competent crew aspects – there is a lot to learn when doing the Day Skipper Practical.
This is an advanced course in navigation and meteorology essential before taking the Coastal Skipper practical course
The Coastal Skipper course teaches the skills and techniques required to safely skipper a yacht on coastal or offshore passages by day and night. It is a more advanced course refining and developing skills learn on the Day Skipper Practical
A week of preparation before an exam. The Yachtmaster Coastal exam is for skippers with he knowledge needed to skipper a sailing yacht on coastal cruises but does not necessarily have the experience to undertake longer passages.
A week of preparation before an exam. A Yachtmaster Offshore is competent to skipper a Sailing Yacht on any passage during which the vessel is no more than 150 miles from harbour.
